In John 6:15-21 we read that the disciples of Jesus got into the boat and went over the sea toward Capernaum. It was already dark and Jesus had not come to them. The sea was disturbed because of the harsh wind. When they were rowing they saw Jesus walking on the sea. First they were afraid but Jesus asked them not to be afraid. " Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going." ( 6:21) It was dark when the disciples were rowing and ' Jesus had not yet joined them.'.. There are dark moments in every individual's life. These are the moments when we have not realized the presence and power of Jesus. 'Jesus had not yet joined them.' These are the dark moments when we do not experience the presence of
Jesus in our lives. It is that clouded period when Jesus had not impacted our life.
But we read that the boat reached the shore when they were willing to take Jesus into the boat. A miracle occurred when Jesus stepped into the boat. The boat reached the shore immediately. When we take Jesus into our life, miracles take place, impossible things
happen. Our destinations are reached instantly and we are transported to safety. Our struggles with bad habits cease once we accept Jesus. Impossible things become possible when we let Jesus control our life. In the Bible we see several instances when the
presence of Jesus made a difference.
1. Lazarus had been dead for 4 days and people observed that the place would be stinking. But the presence of Jesus at the spot of death and decay brought Lazarus back to life. Jesus can bring new life. May be we are spiritually dead and our life may be stinking with numerous sinful acts. People may shun us because of the stench but Jesus can bring new life. He can breathe into our life fresh fragrance. His presence will give us a new life and a new purpose. Similarly His presence in the life of Zacheus gave him a new life and new understanding. He was ready to return four times all that he had taken.
He got a new insight into life's priorities in the presence of Jesus.
2.The presence of Jesus at the wedding of Cana removed the inadequacy. We may feel inadequate to accomplish that which we wish to do but the presence of Jesus in our life will remove such feelings of inadequacies and empower us. We are enabled to feel
comfortable with life and its challenges when Jesus is present in our life. We may rise above wants and feel secure.
May God bless us with this abundant life.
