Be always on the watch and pray that you may be able to stand before the Son of God. (Luke 21:36)
There are many reasons for us to pray. One important aspect of prayer is that it qualifies us to stand before the Son of God. Romans 14:10 reminds us that ‘ we will all stand before God’s judgment seat” . So the main function of prayer is to make us eligible to stand before the throne of God.
Prayer is communication with God which establishes a relationship with Him. It is a telephone line which connects us with God of purity. “ Without holiness no one can see God.” ( Hebrews 12:14) ‘ Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see god.” ( Matthew 5:8) Unless we are purified we can not establish any contact with God. Prayer purifies us and makes us fit to approach the throne of grace where we can place our praise and petitions and where we receive the answers. It is impossible to commune with God with unclean heart.
Constant contact with any person influences the nature of an individual. If we pray continuously our nature would change. A container with a hole held under a running tap may not hold water but definitely will be cleansed. Similarly if we continue in a prayerful attitude and allow the power of God to flow through our life, our impurities will be washed out. This is the main function of prayer and this is why we should pray. It is not only to get the blessings from the hands of God. Once we become eligible to stand before the throne of God, blessings will come looking for us . We need not run after blessings. Hence prayers should cleanse our thoughts, actions and words. Only then we become children of God who will have the right to stand before God.
Be always on the watch and pray that you may be able to stand before the Son of God.
