Jacob deceived Esau two times. He took his birthright and here he has taken Esau's blessings. God chose him but his choice did not depend on his merit. Jacob did not go unpunished for his deception. He had to work hard for Laban who cheated him. Yet he is blessed. People through whom God plans to do great things receive revelations from Heaven and see visions. Joseph saw dreams and Paul in NT had a vision. Jacob was chosen by God to father the twelve tribes of the Israelites. When Joseph had the dream of the ladder, he was moved. His response to God's words is very genuine and he accepts God immediately. He promises to accept God as his God if He takes care of him. He even promises to give one tenth of all what God will give him. His readiness in accepting God and his spontaneous offer are striking. There is no halfhearted submission. Beneath the deceit, there is a soft sincerity.
