Today's Scripture

I Samuel 1:6:- And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.

I Samuel Chapters 1 - 3

In the beginning of this book we read about the choices two women made . Elkanah had two wives. Peninnah had children whereas Hannah had none. We read that Peninnah kept provoking Hannah in order to irritate her. Whenever they went to the temple, Peninnah provoked her till Hannah wept and would not eat. Peninnah chose to be proud and insulting. But Hannah bore everything with humility and poured her agony before God. She wanted a son so that she could offer him to the service of God. She chose to be humble and waited for the will of God. We do not see in her any trace of proud triumph of motherhood. So later she had the privilege of being the mother of Samuel, the great prophet.

Prayer : God, help us to be humble, trusting in tour care and guidance. Keep us free from insulting and proud behaviour.
