LEARN FROM JESUS

Dr. Mrs. Edriana Jeyasingh

Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11: 29-30)

We have been asked to learn from Jesus. Our self-imposed regulations and principles that govern and guide our life often turn out to be cumbersome. Jesus invites us to accept His way of thinking and living, which will make our life light and enjoyable. We are encouraged to learn from Him and be like Him so that our life will be a blessing to many. In Matthew 12: 18-21, the characteristics of Jesus are listed. If they become our guidelines and check-list, our life will cease to be burdensome.

"Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
(Are we chosen by God?)
The one I love, in whom I delight.
(Does God delight in us?)
I will put my spirit on Him.
(Do we have His Spirit?)
And He will proclaim justice to the Nations.
(Do we practice and proclaim justice?)
He will not quarrel or cry out.
(Do we love peace and harmony?)
No one will hear His voice in the streets.
(Do we speak the right words in the right place at the right time?)
A bruised reed He will not break.
(Do we support the weak, the poor and the downtrodden?)
And a smouldering wick He will not snuff out.
(Do we encourage and help others to lead a brighter and happier life?)
Till He leads justice to victory.
(Do we persevere till we win?)
In His name the nations will put their hope.
(Can others place their hope in us?)
