WORSHIP THE RISEN CHRIST

Dr. Mrs. Edriana Jeyasingh

Mary and other women went to the tomb but did not see the risen Christ there. The two men who were walking towards Emmaus did not recognize Jesus who was walking with them(Luke 24:15). In our busy schedule either we try to look for Christ in wrong places or fail to identify His presence in our daily walk of life.

If our life is flat, empty and without significance, it is because we fail to see the risen Christ and understand who He really is. Some of us see him scarcely at all. Others have such a pitifully small and sentimental picture of Him on the wall of our mind that we miss the real thing. If we could keep in view the risen Christ as He really is, we will find satisfaction, and our lives would be unending worship and joyful obedience. Life will be meaningful only when we see Him as He is and understand His purpose for our life and our response to His will.

In Matthew 28, Jesus makes two appearances after his resurrection. First, to the women in verse 9, They came up and clasped his feet and worshipped him. The second appearance was to the eleven disciples in Galilee. Verse 17: "And when they saw him they worshipped him" It appears as if Matthew wants to suggest that the proper response to the risen Christ is worship. Worship is obeying God in all small details. Every act of obedience to God is worship. How can we worship Jesus without following His precepts?

In 28:18. Jesus says, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." The risen Christ has more authority than any other leader. All authority on earth has been given to the risen Christ. The risen Christ has authority over our life .So we must surrender ourselves to Him and be guided. It is not enough if we only worship Him outwardly. God looks at our heart and He wants us to surrender our thoughts, actions and speech to Him. This alone indicates and confirms our act of accepting His authority.

The risen Christ is our King and has absolute, unlimited authority over our life. If we do not bow and worship him and trust him and obey him we commit treason against Christ the King, who is God over all. He is God! So if we resist his claim, feel no admiration for his infinite power and authority, and turn finally to seek satisfaction in the worldly pleasures that allow us to be our own master, then we will be punished for treason on the last day. Our life of indifference to the risen Christ and of half-hearted attention now and then (perhaps on Easter) to a few of his commandments will appear on that day as supremely foolish and fill us with eternal regrets.

Verse 19 shows that the risen Christ has a purpose. He wants us to fulfill His purpose. He knows why he reigns. "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." The purpose of the risen Christ is to empower us to make his authority known everywhere so that people will surrender to Him.
